Permissions

The region of Kutch is a sensitive area due to its proximity to the Pakistani border. Therefore, it needs prior approval for the trip to the salt desert. It can be taken from the village of Bhirandiyara, famous for its milk-based sweet, Mawa, on the way to the border, about 55 km from Bhuj.

Procedure

Submit photocopies of your ID, and also carry your originals. Checkpoint opens around 11am in the morning. Get permission from the DSP Police Office of Gujarat at Bhuj near Jubilee Ground (closed on Sundays and every 2nd and 4th Saturdays).

The officers give written permission to the military post at the entrance of the salt chowk. The process takes around 45 minutes.
